08/16/2010: EUCLID ASG meets with Permanent Representatives of Sierra Leone and Eritrea
EUCLID's Secretariat announced today that NY-based ASG Imara Johnpullé held meetings last week with the ambassadors of Sierra Leone and Eritrea to complete the legal clarification procedure initiated in May to apply for registration of the EUCLID agreements in the United Nations Treaty Series under Article 102 of the UN Charter. On this occasion, Ambassador Desta also signed the updated EUCLID framework agreement on behalf of the government of Eritrea. Ms Johnpullé also discussed various support initiatives developed by EUCLID to better serve the needs of the Permanent Missions.

06/01/2010: Prime Minister signs EUCLID convention
EUCLID's Secretariat announced today the that His Excellency Faustin Touadéra, Prime Minister of the Government of the Central African Republic has approved the framework agreement that formalizes CAR's participation in EUCLID (Euclid University).
This approval is very significant because the Prime Minister was the Rector of the University of Bangui when the Euclid Consortium was established in 2006. The Euclid academic programs later on became the foundation of the EUCLID intergovernmental initiative.

05/27/2010: Benin Ministry of Foreign Affairs approves appointment of national coordinator
EUCLID announced today that the government of Benin has formally approved the appointment of a national coordinator in Cotonou to implement various support programs, notably in terms of technology support and specialized training.

EUCLID's Secretariat announced today the that His Excellency Augustin NSANZE, Minister of External Relations and International Cooperation of the Government of Burundi has approved the instrument of approval and participation that formalizes Burundi's participation in EUCLID (Euclid University).

His Excellency Ambassador Toihiri (Comoros) hosted today a meeting of several Permanent Representatives and Deputy Permanent Representatives aimed at discussing the process of registration of the EUCLID intergovernmental agreements. EUCLID was represented by Assistant Secretary General Imara Johnpullé.

05/10/2010: EUCLID Commissioner meets Lesotho High Commissioner Prince Seeiso B. Seeiso
EUCLID Commissioner for Economic Development and Trade Diplomacy, Colin Evans, was received last week by His Royal Highness Prince Seeiso of Lesotho who is currently serving as High Commissioner of the Kingdom in London. The two officials discussed educational and developmental needs and initiatives relevant to Lesotho and possible participation in the EUCLID framework.

02/17/2010: EUCLID appoints Colin Evans as Commissioner for Economic Development and Trade Diplomacy and Adjunct Professor of Trade Diplomacy
The Secretariat General announced today the appointment of Colin Evans as EUCLID Commissioner for Economic Development and Trade Diplomacy and Adjunct Professor of Trade Diplomacy.
Mr. Evans is widely recognized as the world's leading Commercial Diplomat. He is qualified in Portuguese Language and Culture at the University of Coimbra and he holds a Licentiateship (LCGI) and Graduateship (GCGI) in Leadership and Management from the City and Guilds of London Institute.
01/07/2010: EUCLID High Steward Banny de Brum reappointed as RMI Ambassador to the United States; presents credentials to President Barack Obama
On November 4, 2009, RMI Ambassador Designate Banny de Brum met with President Barack Obama at the White House to present his Letter of Credence, appointing him as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of the Marshall Islands to the United States of America.
Ambassador de Brum is also the High Steward of EUCLID (Euclid University), having been appointed in February 2009. He has travelled in that capacity in early 2009, notably to launch the EUCLID/B&S LOT3 project with the Ministry of Education of Eritrea.
The EUCLID team presents its congratulations to Ambassador de Brum and his family.

12/16/2009: EUCLID concludes Paris Convention Article 6ter procedures
The Secretary General's office announced today that the provisions of Article 1 of the EUCLID Framework Agreement have been fully implemented and that protection under Article 6ter of the Paris Convention has been confirmed for Euclid University (EUCLID) with publication by the World Intellectual Property Organization in the March 2010 database update.
11/27/2009: ICCI and EUCLID/IOSD sign extended framework agreement for joint initiative in global education
The Secretary General's office announced today that an extended and renewed framework agreement has been signed with ICCI (Islamic Chamber of Commerce and Industry) which places EUCLID's Master's degrees in Islamic Finance and International Business in the context of a joint initiative with scholarship support. ICCI is an affiliated institution of the Organization of the Islamic Conference which has 55 member states on 4 continents.

The Secretary General's office announced today that a memorandum of understanding has been signed with ECOWAS (Economic Community of West African States / Communauté économique des États de l'Afrique de l'Ouest) with entry into force as of September 25, 2009. The agreement, governed by international law, establishes a formal cooperation framework between the two organizations and facilitates access to EUCLID educational programs for ECOWAS staff. ECOWAS is a regional inter-governmental organization with 15 member states in West Africa.
As in the case of previous agreements with other intergovernmental institutions, the MOU confirms the academic accreditation of the programs offered by EUCLID and consolidates the role of EUCLID as strategic partner in sustainable development through capacity building and diplomatic training.
Biographical information for ECOWAS Commission / MOU Signatory: H.E. Dr. Mohammed Ibn CHAMBAS
Dr. Chambas, who was born on 7 December 1950, holds degrees in Political Science from the University of Ghana, Legon (B. A. 1973) and Cornell University, Ithaca New York (M. A. 1977; PhD 1980) and a law degree from Case Western Reserve University Cleveland, Ohio (J. D. 1984).
Dr. Chambas first entered Government in 1987 as Deputy Foreign Minister of Ghana. Between April 1997 and December 2000, Dr. Chambas was the Deputy Minister of Education in charge of Tertiary Education. In that capacity he had direct responsibility for the country's five universities, ten polytechnics and agencies/institutions charged with the formulation of policies on higher education, accreditation and maintenance of standards in tertiary institutions. His working experience in the United States includes teaching at Oberlin College, and practicing law with The Greater Cleveland Legal Aid Society and the Cleveland, Ohio, Law Office of Forbes, Forbes and Teamor. Dr. Chambas served a four-year term (1997-2001) on the Cornell University Council, the first African to serve on the Council of the prestigious Ivy-league American University. He was re-elected for another four year term from 2003-2007.
08/31/2009: EUCLID SG signs agreement with University of the Comoros
On Monday 08/31, EUCLID Secretary General Syed Zahid Ali held various meetings with senior officials of the government of the Comoros on the occasion of his official visit to Moroni.
In addition to his meeting with the Minister of Education H.E. Dr. Kamaliddine AFFRAITANE, Mr. Ali discussed various cooperation projects at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and visited the campus of the University of the Comoros. On this occasion, a cooperative agreement was signed between EUCLID and the University of the Comoros allowing the University to join the Euclid Consortium and to cooperate with EUCLID and other universities in capacity-building initiatives.
The Union of the Comoros is among the world's poorest countries and has a government dedicated to promoting accelerated and sustainable development by means of comprehensive international partnerships. The Comoros have been a EUCLID Participating Party since April 2009.

08/31/2009: EUCLID delegation visits Permanent Mission of Uganda to the United Nations and other Permanent Missions
On Thursday 08/27, a EUCLID delegation visited Uganda House - the location Permanent Mission of Uganda to the United Nations - to offer and presentation and report on the EUCLID institutional framework which was approved in 2008 by Uganda's Foreign Minister Sam Kutesa on behalf of the government of Uganda.
Uganda is currently serving on the UN Security Council (having held the Council's Presidency in July) and EUCLID's team reiterated the organization's commitment to support the capacity-building and educational efforts of the government and permanent mission.
The EUCLID delegation also held meetings at the Permanent Missions of the Comoros, Senegal, Eritrea and Sierra Leone, all of which are EUCLID Participating Parties.

Biographical note: H.E. Dr. Ruhakana Rugunda, 61, is the Permanent Representative of the Republic of Uganda to the United Nations. Prior to his appointment as Permanent Representative in January 2009, a position he holds at Ministerial level, Dr. Ruhakana Rugunda was the Minister of Internal Affairs (2003-2009). He has extensive and varied experience in government and public service having held several portfolios as Minister of Water and Environment (2001-2003), Minister for Presidency (1998-2001), Minister of Information (1996-1998), Minister of Foreign Affairs (1994-1996), Minister of Works, Transport and Communications (1988-1994), and Minister of Health (1986-1988), among others.

05/01/2009: State of Eritrea communicates EUCLID agreement to United Nations Secretariat General for Registration and Publication
EUCLID Secretary-General Syed Zahid Ali announced today that the Permanent Mission of the State of Eritrea headed by Ambassador Araya Desta has communicated the instructions of the government of Eritrea, in the form of an optional protocol, to the UN Treaty Section for the registration and publication of the EUCLID MOU by the United Nations Secretariat General in accordance with Article 102 of the Charter. This process is an important step to ensure the transparency of EUCLID's charter and statutes. The instrument approved in April 2009 by the Comoros (see below) also included the specific mention "and for registration and publication of the present agreement by the UN Secretariat General."
04/13/2009: EUCLID welcomes Union of Comoros as new Participating Party
EUCLID Secretary-General Syed Zahid Ali announced today that the government of the Union of the Comoros, an Indian Ocean island state, represented by H.E. Mohamed Toihiri, Permanent Representative to the United Nations, approved the standard instrument to participate in EUCLID.
While the special participation of CAR remains a pre-approved possibility, this participation formally brings EUCLID Phase 2 to a close.

03/24/2009: Ambassador Banny de Brum, EUCLID High Steward and Chairman of the Board of Advisors concludes delegation visit to Eritrea
Ambassador Banny de Brum headed a EUCLID delegation to Asmara which was related with a EU financed initiative for which EUCLID was selected as educational partner by the Ministry of Education of Eritrea. During the course of his official visit, Ambassador de Brum met with several senior officials, including H.E. Minister of Foreign Affairs Osman Saleh as well as the President of the University of Asmara.

02/20/2009: Secretary General announces appointment of Ambassador Banny De Brum as EUCLID High Steward and Chairman of the Board of Advisors
Secretary General Syed Zahid Ali officially announced the appointment of Ambassador Banny de Brum as High Steward and Chairman of the Board of Advisors.
Banny de Brum served as Ambassador of the Marshall Islands to the United States in Washington DC between 1996 and 2008. He is well and favorably known by US agencies for his collaborative work, notably as chairman of the Washington Pacific Committee.
He and his wife Honor reside near the federal capital.

02/01/2009: EUCLID welcomes Republic of Senegal as new Participating Party
EUCLID Secretary-General Syed Zahid Ali announced today that the government of Senegal, represented by H.E. Abdoulaye Faye, Minister of State to the President of the Republic, approved the standard instrument to participate in EUCLID. The Secretary-General also expressed his appreciation for the work accomplished by EUCLID's representative in Senegal, Ms. Lala Fall.

11/07/2008: EUCLID/IOSD Secretary General attends annual Ministerial level ICCI conference
EUCLID Secretary General Syed Zahid Ali (seen on left-most seat in the above photograph) attended the annual conference of the Islamic Chamber of Commerce and Industry held in Damascus, Syria, during the first week of November. As session leader, Mr. Ali presented an update on the activites of the organization since his announcement of EUCLID Phase 2 at the ICCI Conference of Qatar (January 2008) which resulted in the participation of EUCLID's four founding Parties. EUCLID's activities in a number of areas, including inter religious diplomacy, where also discussed in the Secretary General's meetings with various government ministers in the sidelines of the conference.

The Islamic Chamber is an affiliated organ of the Organization of Islamic Conference (OIC) and represents the private sector of 57 member countries. It aims at strengthening closer collaboration in the field of trade, commerce, information technology, insurance/reinsurance, shipping, banking, promotion of investment opportunities and joint ventures in the member countries. Sierra Leone and Uganda are OIC/ICCI member states.

News / In Focus: September 1, 2008 - CAFRAD and EUCLID approve MOU
EUCLID Secretary General Syed Zahid Ali announced today the signature of a cooperation program with CAFRAD, an intergovernmental organization established in 1964 by African and Indian Ocean governments, with the support of UNESCO. CAFRAD's Member States are Algeria, Angola, Benin, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Cameroun, Cape Verde, Central African Republic, Chad, Congo, Côte d’Ivoire, Democratic Republic of Congo, Djibouti, Equatorial Guinea, Gabon, Gambia, Ghana, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Liberia, Libya, Madagascar, Mali, Mauritania, Mauritius, Morocco, Namibia, Niger, Nigeria, Sao Tome & Principe, Sierra Leone, Somalia, South Africa, Sudan, Swaziland, Togo and Tunisia. CAFRAD is a partner IGO of the United Nations Public Administration Network (UNPAN).
This inter-IGO MOU charts a course for official cooperation in the field of technology, mutual accreditation and e-learning initiatives.

EUCLID Secretary General Syed Zahid Ali announced today the completion of EUCLID Phase 2 which was marked by the approval of the fourth standard multilateral Memorandum of Understanding pertaining to the EUCLID Framework and Statutes.
The multilateral MOU confirms the international legal personality, charter and accreditation of EUCLID (Euclid University) which is officially constituted as an intergovernmental university.

Last 16 April 2008, Sierra Leone Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Trade H.E. Zainab Hawa BANGURA approved the standard multilateral Memorandum of Understanding pertaining to Sierra Leone's participation in EUCLID.
St. Vincent & Grenadines finalizes participation in EUCLID educational framework (03/2008)
Executive President Syed Zahid Ali announced today that St. Vincent & Grenadines Minister of Education Girlyn MIGUEL has approved the standard multilateral Memorandum of Understanding pertaining to Saint Vincent's participation in EUCLID. This program is an illustration of Minister Miguelùs strong commitment to Sustainable Development in Education.
Saint Vincent and the Grenadine is an independent Caribbean state, member of the Commonwealth and of the Organization of the American States.
